Our Classroom

Our classroom is a safe and welcoming environment.  That is a hub of excitement in which learning is created and developed through play and interactions with peers and staff.

We have a range of continuous provision areas for example role play, reading area, construction, sand, water and many more.  Within Reception ours classrooms extends into the outdoor space and children access this through free flow activities. In Reception we value the children's work and display this throughout the classroom, showcasing children's successes.
We have an alter in each classroom to say our daily prayers and to take time in our day to reflect.
The children in Reception love to learn and develop their independence skills to enable them to be school ready.

Reception Outdoor Facilities

Outdoor play is on offer to the children almost every day whatever the weather.

All children need wellingtons and a waterproof coat every day (these can be left in class).

The outdoors is part of our classroom and as such children are expected to learn outdoors from the natural environment as well as indoors.

Our Day

Reception children opens it's doors from 08:45 until 08:55. They enter via the front of the school and children are encouraged to enter independently.  Please wait at the gate to the Reception play area at 3.15pm when staff will supervise children being collected.  Please be on time to collect your child. It is essential you telephone school if you are late for any reason so we can reassure your child.

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

Within the Foundation stage we have worked hard to create a curriculum that allows the Nursery year and Reception year to complement each other, building on skills that are established in Nursery within Reception to enable children to become school ready at the end of the Foundation stage.

Phonics Support

We have launched a new reading scheme to match with our phonics capabilities.  This means that we are sending home books similar to those the children have been doing in class that same week.

The Read Write Inc book bag book is targeted at your child's reading ability - they are to read this book independently.  Please go over the green/red words at the beginning, to ensure they understand the vocabulary.  Ask them questions using the information at the back of the books or ask them to retell the story,

The Oxford Owl book is for shared reading with an adult.  This is to help your child with comprehension and fluency with the aim to be reading 90 words a minute by the end of Year 2.
